Health Minister Dr. A.K. Walia, today alerted Delhites, RWAs, heads of the Govt. and private institutions, offices, hospitals, schools, colleges, police stations, market associations etc. against breeding of aedes mosquitoes within their premises. He said that present intermittent showers combined with rising temperature have created conditions conducive to mosquitoe-genic conditions, particularly breeding of aedes mosquitoes. He said that finding breeding of aedes mosquitoes in summer season is a matter of serious concern because it may lead to spread of diseases if the mosquito-breeding is not checked in time.
He was reviewing situation in Delhi with regard to water and vector borne diseases along with senior officers of Delhi Govt., NDMC, MCD, Cantonment Board and other bodies responsible for control and management of water and vector borne diseases in the city.
During the review of the situation, it was found that breeding of Aedes mosquitoes was detected in posh areas as well as in jhuggi jhompri clusters. NDMC area accounted for eleven and Municipal areas for 56 cases of breeding during April itself. The total number of dengue cases up till last week was 21. Twelve cases were reported positive by ELISA test, three by RDK and six cases were reportedly suspected and were under surveillance. Out of these, nine cases are from Delhi and the remaining from other states. Dr. Walia said that the situation is under control but it underscores the fact that we need to take more precautions against the outbreak of dengue in the coming months.
Dr. Walia said that with a view to control vector borne diseases like dengue, malaria, it is essential that all Governmental and non-governmental agencies as well as citizens should come together and ensure that breeding places of mosquitoes are eliminated.
