Rekha takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP

Noted Bollywood actress Rekha took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Tuesday.

Previously, President Pratibha Patil had approved her name for the Rajya Sabha. The president has also approved the name of ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Rekha, with a number of award winning films to her kitty, is one of well-known faces of Bollywood- the Hindi film industry.

In her 40 years long career, Rekha has acted in over 180 films. In most of her films, she has portrayed the characters of strong female. Besides acting in mainstream cinema, she has also done some good roles in the parallel cinema.

The 57 year old has three Filmfare Awards, two for best actress and one for best supporting actress, for her roles in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), respectively.

Besides, she has also won National Film Award for best actress for her role as a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981).

Tendulkar is supposed to take oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on Wednesday. The terms of both Rekha and Tendulkar starts from April 27.
