It is likely to be continue for some days, an official said.

Out of seven dead in Bihar comprise four people from Muzaffarpur district and one each in Gaya, Patna and Chapra.

A dense fog has disrupted air and rail services in Bihar, with several flights delayed and long-distance trains running late.

Earlier, in Uttar Pradesh (UP) at least 26 people were reported dead on Monday in last 24 hours due to extreme dip in the temperature and cold waves.

The deaths were reported from Basti (6), Jaunpur (4), Ballia (4), Mirzapur (2), Varanasi, Bhadohi and Chandauli (1 each). Dense fog has also caused road accidents, in which as many as six have died.

The administration in Lucknow ordered to close the schools in the district till January 05, 2013.

While in various districts, the opening timings of the schools have been ordered to change to 10:00 a.m.

Due to dense fog and low visibility in Bihar and UP, trains are being late several hours that is causing discomfort to the travellers.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the meteorological department has forecast rain and snowfall in the next few days.

The cold wave can also shiver the valley.

The minimum temperature was minus 2.9 degrees Celsius in Srinagar Wednesday. It was minus 6.5 in Pahalgam, minus 7 in Gulmarg, minus 13.8 in Leh and minus 15.4 in Kargil town.

The bitter morning chill and freezing night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley have added to the winter woes of the locals.

Frequent blockades of the Jammu-Srinagar highway due to snow and landslides in winter result in shortages of essentials in the valley.

The highway is the only road link of the landlocked valley with the rest of India.
