It was a tough hour for Police deployed at India Gate and Vijay chowk as due to Sunday, the number of protestors were likely to rise and there was a possibility to pitch a tough scene from the yesterday. However Police played its powerful role and succeeded in evacuating the India Gate from the protesters. Certainly it was not a easy task for the Police as protesters were ready to left no stone unturned in their stance and agitation.

However the Delhi Police tried to remove protesters from India Gate, who had been agitating at the site since Tuesday demanding justice for the 23-year-old woman who was gang-raped and brutally assaulted in a bus a week ago.

Police tried hard to put the protesters into the waiting buses and get them out of the India Gate area but many of them managed to slip through. While some got on top of the buses and raised slogans, many attempted to block the movement of buses by lying under them. It was some angry protesters who vandalised the buses and deflated the tyres.

Apart from some minor scuffles and arguments, overall police practiced restrained. Police personnel were seen requesting the protesters to either go to Ramlila Maidan or Jantar Mantar to protest.

The major clash between protesters and Police occurred yesterday when Police lathicharged and used teat gas to disperse them However thousands of young men and women Saturday laid siege around Raisina Hill, the seat of power, demanding justice for the rape victim and safety for women in Delhi. Police had to use batons and fire teargas shells to disperse the crowd, injuring many people in the process.
