Beijing seeks more investment in tourism

China,Business/Economy, Thu, 22 Nov 2012 IANS

Beijing, Nov 22 (IANS) Beijing will further encourage private investments in the tourism sector, a top official said.

Beijing was among five cities recently chosen for a comprehensive tourism reform. The other cities are Chengdu, Qinhuangdao, Zhoushan and Zhangjiajie, China Daily reported.

"As a pilot city, it's necessary to mobilize social resources and private capital to help develop tourism," Lu Yong, director of Beijing tourism development committee, said Wednesday.

He said Beijing will continue introducing policies and regulations to allow more capital from the private sectors, domestic or abroad, to help speed up tourism reform.

Beijing will invest about 1 billion yuan ($160 million) every year to promote it as a tourist destination, the tourism development committee announced.
