The entire nation is remembering the 123rd birth anniversary of country's first Prime Minister and leading freedom fighter Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who denoted to celebrate his birth anniversary as Children's day (Bal Diwas) because he adorned Children.
Celebrations are going in entire country and various programmes are being organized across the country marking his birth anniversary and Children's day.
President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice-President Hamid Ansari along with other national leaders gathered at his memorial - Shanti Van, at the banks of the Yamuna river on Wednesday morning to pay floral tribute to the first Prime Minister of India.
Nehru, born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad at British period in an affluent family. India's leading barrister Motilal Nehru, who belonged to Kashmiri pandit community was an eminent personality of that time. Motilal's second wife Swaruprani Thussu was the mother of Pt JL Nehru.
Other prominent personalities from the Indian political field like Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers - Salman Khursid, Kamal Nath, Delhi's Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit too accompanied and paid respect to one of the first leaders of Independent India.
The occurrence concluded with release of tricolored balloons and band-plays.
