Atrocities against Dalits rising in Haryana: Panel

Gurgaon, Nov 5 (IANS) The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Monday said the incidents of atrocities against Dalits in the Haryana were rapidly increasing and the state needs separate police stations and fast track courts for such cases.

Raj Kumar Verka, vice-chairman of the commission, Monday visited Gurgaon and said the state needed separate police stations for Dalits and fast track courts for the settlement of such cases.

Verka was here to inquire into the custody death of 29-year-old cab driver Bharat Bhushan.

Verka said that the victim was brutally beaten up by police. Signs of these were present on the victim's body.

He said that the state government claimed that it was number one in progress but it had become number one in the field of atrocities on the Dalits.

Resident of Rajendra Park, Bhushan Saturday died in Rajendra Park police station. Six unknown policemen have been booked for murder and under Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
