BJP, Congress two sides of same coin: Brinda Karat

Shimla, Wed, 31 Oct 2012 ANI

Shimla, Oct 31 (ANI): Terming both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress as two sides of the same coin, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat has said that her party sought to form a substitute platform for the redressal of the people's grievances.

Addressing an election rally here, Karat said: "The BJP and the Congress are two sides of the same coin. When I talk of the same coin, then I mean that their policies are anti-people, they both are deeply involved in corruption and they merrily go on robbing the nation."

"And here especially in Himachal Pradesh, they consider the people of this state as a football which they kick to each other's court after interval of five years. So this time a proper substitute policy has to be taken with strength for the rights of Himachal Pradesh, which has been destroyed by both the BJP and the Congress," she added.

Meanwhile, CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said that the BJP ruled state government is bringing up frivolous issues as their election agendas whereas the real issues are being outrightly ignored.

"They (BJP) only talk of frivolous issues or minor issues. And policy issues they never talk because their policies are not different from the Congress. The only way they try to differentiate from the Congress on such matters is that they keep raising these individual personalised issues, which we think is not the nature of politics. Politics must be about policies," he added.

The Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly consists of 68 seats, and Bharatiya Janata Party won 42 in the previous elections.

The single-phase election in Himachal Pradesh will take place on November 4 while counting of votes is scheduled on December 20. (ANI)
