New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was awarded the prestigious Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President's Award 2012 here yesterday.
The award was presented to DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh for Delhi Mass Rapid Transport System Project (I) - (VI) in the presence of JICA Chief Representative Shinya Ejima.
The JICA President Award is given either to an individual or an organization that is associated with JICA and whose contribution in the field of development is recognized to be of immense significance in a development society.
In the past, the award has mostly been given to Japanese organizations like research institutions, NGOs and medical organizations.
A commendation certificate along with a tribute to this effect duly signed by Akihiko Tanaka, President of JICA, was presented to the DMRC Managing Director while receiving the ninth (9th) JICA award in today's function.
On the occasion, Singh said that this honour will go a long way in strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Japan and will encourage us to cooperate with each other in many such projects in the days to come.
The fact that the Japan International Cooperation Agency has chosen only four projects from different parts of the globe for this award makes it even more memorable for Delhi Metro.
JICA and DMRC have shared a very special relationship right since the beginning of the Metro construction in 1998 in the National Capital Region of Delhi and this award will definitely deepen this bond. (ANI)
