Jaipur, Oct 25 (IANS) A tiger dragged away a forest official while he was overseeing a passage repair work and mauled him to death in Rajasthan's Ranthambore National Park Thursday, police said.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. while some labourers were repairing a passage in the reserve's Kundal area, some 150 km from Jaipur. The world famous reserve is home to about 50 tigers.

"Assistant forester Ghisa Ram was supervising the work. Some labourers saw a tiger attacking and then dragging him away," a police officer told IANS.

Police said the body of the 47-year-old officer was found at Kala Peela Pani hills around an hour later.

The labourers informed the park authorities, following which a team of district administration and forest department officers rushed there. By the time they arrived, the officer was dead, said the police officer.

The forest department has launched an inquiry into the incident.
