London, Oct 18 (ANI): The number of people being trafficked into Britain for the sex trade or slave labour is rising, a report has claimed.
A report by the inter-departmental ministerial group on human trafficking said that the number of people being trafficked into rose to 946 last year, compared with 710 in 2010.
Of the people trafficked into the UK for sex, labour and domestic slavery, 234 were children, the Telegraph reports.
The report pointed out that most of the victims come from China, Vietnam and Eastern Europe.
According to the paper, the country's Immigration Minister Mark Harper said the number of those being prosecuted in trafficking cases was still "not enough".
"We're doing a better job of cracking down people involved in the vile trade, which is effectively modern-day slavery," he told BBC Radio.
"One of the things we do is to prosecute people for the most serious offences we can - and sometimes that's not a trafficking offence," he added. (ANI)
