Kolkata, Sep 24 (IANS) US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here Monday.
Powell called on Banerjee at the West Bengal secretariat and held talks with her for about 40 minutes. Neither spoke to the media after the meeting.
An official said that the meeting was scheduled three weeks earlier.
"It was planned about three weeks ago that Nancy Powell would visit American Center in Kolkata. And her meet with the chief minister was also pre-scheduled," American Center director Jeffrey K. Reneau told IANS, terming the meeting a "courtesy call".
