Islamabad, Sept. 9 (ANI): The Pakistani Christian girl, who was arrested on charges of blasphemy, has been airlifted from the Adiala Jail and shifted to an unspecified place in Islamabad under the protective custody of the police.
Rimsha Masih's counsel, Tahir Naveed Chaudhry, and a senior police officer said she would be shifted to a safe place in another city with her family.
The police officer said the helicopter was arranged on the directives of Interior Minister Rehman Malik, and added that a heavy contingent of police commandoes had been deployed around the jail to avoid any untoward incident, reports The Dawn.
Meanwhile, the Additional Session Judge of Islamabad, Azam Khan, ordered Inspector General Bani Amin Khan to appoint an honest and dedicated senior officer to investigate the case.
Chaudhry said the state was responsible for the girl and her family's safety.
Rimsha, believed to be around 14 years of age, and reportedly suffering from some mental disability, was allegedly seen burning pages inscribed with Quranic verses, last month. The news of the desecration spread like wild fire, following which furious locals bashed up Rimsha and her mother.
The police later arrested Rimsha on the demand of the locals. Rimsha had been remanded in judicial custody since August 16. (ANI)
