Tokyo, Sep 8 (IANS) The United States beat former champions Germany 1-0 in Tokyo to claim their third FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup crown Saturday.
Germany, which defeated US 3-0 in a group encounter just a fortnight ago, were more aggressive at the beginning of the match, creating a series of chances with efficient crosses from both sides, reports Xinhua.
The Americans barely held onto their defence before they made some attacking headway as Maya Hayes took a driving run and shot from her position on the right side of the forward line.
In the 44th minute, defender Crystal Dunn used her speed and power to cut in from the flank and pull the ball back for Kealia Ohai, who scored the goal from near the penalty spot.
Despite a succession of corners, Germany failed to find the equaliser as US held on.
