Cook will rise up to new challenges thrown to him: Finn

London, Aug 31 (ANI): England's new Test captain Alastair Cook will rise up to the new challenges thrown up to him, according to pacer Steve Finn.

The 27-year-old has long been the heir apparent and his similarities with Andrew Strauss are there for all to see.

But Finn warned that if Cook thinks he can just rumble along doing things the same way Strauss did, he will come unstuck.

Finn said: "I think the transition between the two will be smooth in that Alastair has been used to working with Andy Flower as a one-day captain. Alastair may have his own plans and stuff he wishes to introduce to the Test team but I would imagine the fundamentals day in day out will be very similar.

"We won't see a drastic change and I think that's good for us as a team. Cooky is a similar sort of leader to Straussy. He leads from the front as an opening batsman going out there setting the tone is very good for a captain."

Strauss' way of leading the England team was right for him, just as Michael Vaughan's and Nasser Hussain's were right for them, The Daily Mirror reports.

Cook has to realise very quickly that he is the man in charge now, and success or failure will be down to him.

"All I will say about Alastair Cook is that whatever the challenge has been laid out in front of him, he has risen to it," said his mentor Graham Gooch earlier this year. (ANI)
