Oz feminist Germaine Greer defends calling PM Julia Gillard 'fat arse'
Melbourne, August 28 (ANI): Australian feminist Germaine Greer, who has a history of making statements that have outraged many, has once again taken aim at the appearance of Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
On her previous appearance on an interactive TV panel, in March, Ms Greer said Prime Minister Julia Gillard wore unflattering jackets and had a "big arse".
"Every time she turns around you've got that strange horizontal crease which means they're cut too narrow in the hips.
"You've got a big arse Julia. Just get on with it."
And now, Gillard's behind has featured in television discussion for the second time as Greer defended her earlier comments.
"Women are fat-arsed creatures," she told ABC's Q 'n' A on Monday night.
"You may have noticed that since I made my unwise speech, I did say get rid of the bloody jackets and she bloody did.
"Go right ahead Julia, wave that arse!" she said.
A young woman in the audience asked Ms Greer if she thought her past comments were appropriate, given the fight to move the focus of political reporting away from female politicians' appearance.
Ms Greer said her problem with the prime ministerial jackets was they looked like they had come from "some kind of a stage hamper" and didn't belong to her.
"She looked like an organ grinder's monkey," she said.
"You may have noticed that since I made my unwise speech, I did say get rid of the bloody jackets and she bloody did."
Host Tony Jones cautioned that the feminist author "may be in danger of making things even worse", to which she replied, "Good! Good!"
"A woman is not her jacket," Ms Greer said.
As for the issue of the behind, she said she wasn't condemning the prime minister, but was actually lauding her.
"You don't understand how tough it is for little girls who think that having a fat arse is to be dead, is to be finished," Ms Greer said.
It's not the first time Ms Greer's comments have sparked controversy.
She has previously claimed British soldiers would rape women while at war, that young girls could be sexualised by "kissing their fathers goodnight" and that the animal world had its revenge with the death of Steve Irwin. (ANI)
