London, Aug 21 (ANI): Hotels in Moscow have been named he world's most expensive for the eighth time in a row.

According to a study by the Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), a travel management company, which surveyed the average room rates in 50 major cities, the perennially pricey Russian capital topped the list for the eighth time, with a one night in a hotel costing travellers 387 dollars.

The study said that this year, it was almost 20 per cent more expensive than anywhere else in the world.

According to The Telegraph, Lagos in Nigeria climbed to second place in the survey with average room rates standing at 325 dollars a night, thanks to a "high volume of inbound business travel connected with the oil industry".

Geneva, where hotel accommodation will typically cost around 324 dollars, around 18 dollars less than last year, came third, while Sydney, also rated among the world's most expensive in the cities surveyed, came in the seventh place with an average rate of 297 dollars, down two per cent on last year.

Average room rates also dipped in other European cities, including Barcelona, Madrid and Dublin.

Stewart Harvey, group commercial director at HRG, said that economic "uncertainty" was "driving down room rates across mainland Europe."
