Islamabad, Aug 15 (ANI): The commission formed to probe into the killing of Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad last May, has suggested that the Pakistan government put the Intelligence Bureau (IB) under the control of the Interior Ministry instead of the prime minister.
According to sources, the IB has been declared an ineligible institution in the commission's report for having no role in national security, reports The News.
"When the commission asked the IB about Osama Bin Laden's hiding and killing inside Pakistan, it refused to divulge any information. The then DG IB, Javed Noor, refused to appear before the commission saying that the Bin Laden case does not fall under the IB's mandate," sources said.
"When strictly summoned by the commission, DG Noor appeared before the commission and said his duty was to keep an eye on politicians. He told the commission that the prime minister had told him that the sources of organisation should be consumed to achieve political ends of the government," the sources added.
According to the DG, his organisation did not carry out any activity regarding national security for the last few years and during this period, his personnel were involved in political wrangling and spying on politicians, the paper said.
According to the sources, after the statement of the DG, the commission members wrote a long note on the IB's role in national security, stating that the IB was not serving the country and was instead, playing the role of a political adviser to the prime minister. (ANI)
