Kiran Bedi asks politicians joining Ramdev to 'fulfill promises'

New Delhi/Ghaziabad, Aug 14 (ANI): Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi on Tuesday asked the politicians who shared the stage with yoga guru Baba Ramdev to fulfill their promises in both houses of Parliament.

Bedi, a member of now disbanded Team Anna, said the nation will now see if those politicians who shared Baba Ramdev's stage fulfill their commitment or not.

"He (Baba Ramdev) has taken the movement to a new height and it was much needed. Secondly, in my view, the political parties that shared the platform with him have now made a commitment. Now, the common man, will want to see in the Parliament that will fulfill their commitment," said Bedi.

"Because there are a few groups among them who support the party in power, which is the reason they are in power. So, this has given us a chance to see whether all the opposition parties that came on the stage, will fulfill their promise in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha," she added.

Bedi appreciated Baba Ramdev for giving impetus to the movement against corruption.

"I feel that Baba Ramdev is taking the right decisions at the right time. He has shown great maturity and right decisions are being taken on the right time and in the right manner. So, I appreciate it," she said.

Meanwhile, another close associate of Hazare, Kumar Vishwas, said that politicians like Sharad Yadav, who shared stage with Ramdev, are double- faced and do not practice what they preach.

"Swami Ramdev is a big actor in the fight against corruption and I thank him for raising this issue by bringing together many people. We have always supported all his movements and currently also we are backing his agitation. But the politicians that have been exposed in front of the country are those who do not practice what they preach," said Vishwas.

"Like Sharad Yadav who assured the country and Annaji that the 'Sense of the House' would not be changed and on the other hand he says that what is Lokpal and who is this women with a boy cut who mocks at us and tries to disrupt parliament proceedings," he added, while talking to mediapersons in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad city.

Vishwas further said that if the opposition leaders are willing to end corruption, then they must appoint Lokpal in the states ruled by their party.

"If Nitin Gadkari and Sharad Yadav are genuinely willing to support Ramdev's fight against corruption then they should appoint Lokpal in their own states, similar to the one, which was appointed by Khanduri (former Uttarakhand Chief Minister B.C Khanduri)," he added.

Several political leaders came out in support of the yoga guru earlier on Monday afternoon. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav and Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy joined Baba Ramdev on his stage at the Ramlila Maidan here

Baba Ramdev, who ended his fast at Delhi's Ambedkar Stadium this afternoon, had earlier declared that he would take his ongoing protest on black money and corruption to Parliament and vowed to oust Congress in the next Lok Sabha polls. (ANI)
