IAF evacuates 171 persons from cloud burst hit Uttaranchal

New Delhi, Aug.12 (ANI): The Sarsawa-based helicopter unit of the Indian Air Force continuing with its rescue/ relief/ recce missions in the hills of Uttaranchal, has so far evacuated 171 persons and deposited 4,600 kilograms of food and relief material.

Using one ALH and two Mi-17 1Vs, the IAF has undertaken 18 sorties and evacuated 47 pilgrims from Harshil to Dharasu besides carrying out aerial recce to identify the areas in need of assistance during the entire mission that started on August 7.

Food packets have been dropped at Harsil, Matli and Dharasu.
