Eloping couple commit suicide in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 10 (IANS) A young couple in Rajasthan is suspected to have committed suicide by jumping into a pond Friday, two days after they eloped after facing objections to their relationship from their families, police said.

Their bodies were found floating Friday in the pond near Pilani town in Jhunjhunu district, some 150 km from Jaipur.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Akash and Amika, both 21 years old, were into a relation.

"However, the family members were opposed to the couple's plan of marriage. Akash and Amita had eloped from their houses in Pilani area Wednesday," said a police officer.

The officer said that some villagers had seen the couple Thursday evening.

"During preliminary investigation, it has come up that they committed suicide by jumping into the pond. The statement of their family members were being recorded," said the officer.
