Washington, Aug. 2 (Xinhua-ANI): The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed James Cunningham as new ambassador to Afghanistan, replacing Ryan Crocker.
Career diplomat Cunningham has been serving as deputy to Crocker in Kabul since June 2011. Before that, he served as ambassador to Israel, consul-general in Hong Kong and deputy envoy to the United Nations.
Crocker stepped down in May due to health reasons after he has run embassies in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, and Lebanon. (Xinhua-ANI)
