How pulling pints in pub spurred Brit shooter Wilson to Olympic gold

London, Aug.3 (ANI): British shooter Peter Wilson had to work hard in a local pub to win the gold medal at London Olympics, as he was one of the 49 aspiring Olympians to lose their UK Sport funding due to recession.

Even that setback couldn't deter Wilson from his path to glory, as he kept his Games dream alive by working at The Poachers Inn, in Piddletrenthide, near Dorchester, The Daily Express reports.

For two months, he combined a gruelling daytime training regime with working in the pub at night until he won back his funding in 2009, and on Thursday he was the toast of Team GB after a nerveless performance earned him gold in the double trap category.

Wilson remembering his time working in the pub joked: "I'm going to get very, very drunk and probably do something silly."

A talented snowboarder as a schoolboy, Peter had suffered a shoulder injury and then turned to competitive shooting out of sheer frustration, and how that decision proved a winner yesterday for him as he roared to victory at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south London. (ANI)
