London, July 29 (ANI): Danny Boyle laughed off at a national clamour for him to be knighted over his majestic display of the Olympics opening ceremony.

When asked how it felt to have millions calling for him to be Sir Danny, the working class champion grinned, shook his head and said: "I don't think so.""I am really tired at the moment. It was a long night!" the Sun quoted him as saying.

Odds on Her Majesty saying "Arise Sir Danny" were slashed to 2/1 after his jaw-dropping four-hour show wowed a global TV audience of one billion.

One punter staked 5,000 pounds at a Ladbrokes bookies in Manchester.

Boyle, 55, could be knighted within months when the New Year Honours list is revealed in December. That would mean a return to Buckingham Palace, where Boyle sensationally turned the Queen into a James Bond girl for the night.

The director was hailed by many Brits and celebrities alike for his spectacular show.

Marion Alleyne, of London, said: "Danny Boyle, you deserve a knighthood for pulling off such a spectacular event."

Col Campbell, of Manchester, said: "Brilliant! You did the country proud."

The mind-blowing 27-million-pound spectacle won rave reviews across the globe.

BBC sports host Jake Humphrey tweeted: "Surely this is enough to make him SIR Danny Boyle."

And Sun columnist Professor Brian Cox said: "By simply having the balls to create that masterpiece, Danny perfectly expressed what Britain is all about." (ANI)
