London, July 28 (ANI): Tech giant Apple's officials have held talks with senior executives of Twitter about possibly buying a stake in the microblogging site, according to a report.
Apple, which was named as the world's most valuable company last year, has reportedly struggled to establish a foothold in social media despite its hugely successful phone and tablet business and appears to have renewed its attempt to break into the multi-billion dollar industry by developing a relationship with Twitter.
"Apple doesn't have to own a social network. But does Apple need to be social? Yes," The Telegraph quoted Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, as saying at a recent technology conference.
Apple is believed to be considering an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in Twitter, although there is currently no indication as to how big a stake it would take if a deal was struck, the report said.
If a partnership is agreed between both the firm, it is likely that Twitter would become more ingrained in Apple products, in return for sharing its expertise on the social web, it added.
However, Apple buying a stake in the social-networking site could still be a long way off as the discussions are said to be only in their early stages and there have not yet been any negotiations, the paper said. (ANI)
