Anna movement losing sheen, needs mass participation: Baba Ramdev
New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): The nationwide anti-graft movement mooted by veteran social activist Anna Hazare seems to have lost its sheen as people are slowly withdrawing their support to this much-hyped crusade, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev said on Friday.
Interacting with mediapersons here, he stressed on the importance of mass support for a movement to be successful.
"I do not want to make comments against anyone. I have a lot of respect for Anna Hazare and want to bring change in the society. But for any mass movement to be called successful, participation of nearly one percent of the total population is a must," Ramdev said.
The thinning crowd at the Jantar Mantar received a boost as Ramdev reached the protest venue in New Delhi with a wave of supporters.
"This is a brave act by any person who wants to dedicate his life for the development of the country. Every Indian should join hands with Anna Hazare and his associates who are fasting for such a noble cause. This is a country of 1.21 billion people and not an ancestral property of any political party," Ramdev added.
He, however, urged people to refrain from making allegations against President Pranab Mukherjee as he was now holding the most coveted position in the country.
"There is provision in the Constitution that a case cannot be registered against the President of the country, not even a FIR. If the Constitution of the country has given the President such a respectable position, then we should not make allegations against the person holding the position," he added.
The government has assured that the Lokpal Bill tabled in the parliament would be taken up during the ensuing monsoon session. (ANI)
