London, July 27 (ANI): British tennis champion Andy Murray could meet top seed Roger Federer in the Olympic final in a repeat of their Wimbledon showdown earlier this month after the pair were drawn on opposite sides of the competition yesterday.
World No.1 and 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer, seeking his first Olympic singles medal, will play Colombia's Alejandro Falla in the opening round.
According to the Daily Express, third seed Murray will have to beat Federer's fellow-Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in his opening match.Federer is Wawrinka's doubles partner as the Swiss pair look to repeat their gold medal success in Beijing.
"It's a tough draw for both guys. They have played each other before and they are good friends. I think they have even practised together twice in the last three days. They will be well prepared to face each other," said Federer.
He added: "Obviously, I hope Stan can win because he is a good friend, but I would say Murray comes into the match as one of the favourites for the tournament. If he comes through that round he is going to be tough to beat." (ANI)
