London, July 25 (IANS) German cyclist Tony Martin has set his sights on a medal at the 2012 London Olympics cycling time trial.
"Gold is possible, but it would be presumptuous to look only for gold. The podium is my primary goal," Martin, who won the inaugural Tour of Beijing last year, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
The German world time-trial champion has insisted that he is back on track after recovering from a broken bone in his hand, which happened in a crash in the Tour de France's first stage.
"It is still torture, but when I'm on the start ramp, I will surely have other things in my head than my hand. The injury won't really hold me back." added Martin.
According to Matin, newly-crowned Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins might be the biggest challenger for all the riders. "He was so super humanly strong in the Tour de France. I think that he will also triumph in London."
The London Olympics cycling time trial will take place at Hampton Court Palace Aug 1, over mostly flat roads that favour the pure power specialists when the riders head out one at a time in a race against the clock.
