Tamil Nadu to set up fisheries technology institute

Chennai, July 20 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalaltihaa has sanctioned Rs.34.08 crore for setting up of a fisheries technology institute offering diploma courses in prawn/ornamental fish farming and maintenance of fishing equipments.

In a statement issued here Friday, the government said the institute will be set up in Ponneri in Thiruvallur district and the students would able to find employment within and outside India.

The government said the setting up of the institute over 20.78 acres would result in bringing new technology in the fisheries field.

Last year, the government announced the establishment of a Fisheries University in Nagapattinam, around 475 km from here.
