Mysore, July 17 (ANI): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Radhakrishnan has called for international synergy in space missions to reduce the cost of access to space resources and in exploring the inter-planetary solar system.
"I am confident that this scientific assembly will have deliberations on the recent advances on all domains of space science, including astronomy, astrophysics, atmospheric science, planetary science and micro gravity," said Radhakrishnan at the inauguration of the 39th assembly of Cospar (Committee on Space Research) held here on Monday.
Radhakrishnan further said holding an event of this magnitude after three decades is recognition of the country's achievements in space technology.
"Space technologies and mission bring together the latest advances in multiple disciplines and their benefits extend to all human kinds. Many of the instruments around us today that we take for granted could not have been possible without the advances in space science," he said.
It is this perspective of using space research for the larger social benefit that leads a developing country like India to embark on an ambitious space programme soon after independence.
Today, India has a robust programme that has helped us in technological developments and helped to reach significant social, economic and industrial advances to the remotest part of our country," he added.
A week long International Space Summit, being held in India for the second time after 33 years, is witnessing participation of around 1300 scientists from over 70 countries to deliberate on a global vision for space in 2020 and beyond.
During the summit, the delegates, including 800 research scholars and students, would be given an overview of the challenges faced by the scientists in utilising space resources.
Nine space-faring nations - Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea Russia and the US would give presentation on their country's vision for space in 2020 and beyond. (ANI)
