Buy tickets while travelling on DTC buses: Dikshit

New Delhi, July 16 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday appealed to the capital's residents to buy tickets while travelling in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses to raise the revenue of the corporation.

"Around 20 to 30 percent people don't buy tickets while travelling in DTC buses. We need to improve our ticket collection system. This will lead to increase in the revenue and there will be no need for fare hike," Dikshit told reporters here when asked about any fare hike in DTC buses.

"No proposal has come so far for hiking the fare but through your medium I would like to appeal to all the passengers to buy tickets when travelling in DTC buses. This will improve efficiency," Dikshit said.

In the wake of the steep hike in CNG (Compressed and Natural Gas) prices in the capital -- Rs.2.90 per kg, the DTC has written to Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely for revising fares.

"I had a conversation with the transport minister and he said that if the need arises they will do something," said Dikshit.
