Sister of missing Sikh woman in New York fears she was murdered

Washington, July 12 (ANI): The New York police is looking for a 26-year-old Sikh woman who went missing from Queens on Sunday.

According to New York Post, the sister of Rajwinder Kaur believes that she has been murdered.

Gurpreet Kaur, 23, received a message from Rajwinder's cell phone at 9:40 p.m. saying: "The girl with this phone is dead was smiling."

"We are scared to death. It was a psychotic message. This should be treated as a murder," Gurpreet said.

She added that her sister would not have written such a message.

Rajwinder was going to work as a volunteer at a Brooklyn homeless shelter, the family didn't know the name of it, after which she did not return.

Gurpreet also dismissed the possibility of Rajwinder's involvement in a relationship that could have played a role. "She did not have a boyfriend," she said.

She added that her sister was devoted to their Sikh religion. "She did a three month spiritual retreat in Punjab [India] where other family members have gone. It's a great place it's not for fanatics."

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said: "We're doing obviously an investigation we're asking anyone with information to give us a call." (ANI)
