London, July 5 (ANI): Britain's health watchdog has criticized a care home for elderly people for playing 'Bhangra' music and hiring staff with poor English speaking skills.
Inspectors for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have warned that the owners of the Parkview Nursing and Residential Home in Bolton that they could face a financial penalties if they do not make improvements.
According to the Daily Mail, the warning comes following a surprise inspection carried out by the CQC, which uncovered a catalogue of failures.
Bhangra music and Punjabi pop which are often featured in Bollywood films, was reportedly played in one resident's room while later, an Asian language radio station was tuned on, despite English being their first language being English.
Some residents also claimed said the majority of staff were hard to understand as their first language was not English.
Despite the manager insisting that staff had been informed about English language classes to improve their communication, no member of staff had shown any interest, the paper said.
The CQC, publishing its report, has issued a formal warning to owners Jewelglen Limited to protect the safety and welfare of the residents, and have ordered them to improve standards by July 16 or face a possible suspension or cancellation of services. (ANI)
