NDMA chief to attend global disaster meet
New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) vice chairman M. Shashidhar Reddy is leading an Indian delegation to the world ministerial conference on disaster reduction being held in Japan from Tuesday.
At the two-day conference at Tohoku, being organised by the Japanese foreign affairs ministry, participants will share experiences of and lessons learned from recent large-scale natural disasters including Great East Japan earthquake, according to an NDMA release.
The meet is being held at that part of Japan which was totally devastated by the earthquake on March 11 last year, which also led to a tsunami which caused damage to the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan.
The meeting will also discuss, at the ministerial level, all major themes related to disaster risk reduction in order to build resilient societies.
The disaster management authority leaders of several countries will support discussions on establishing post-Hyogo Framework for Action in the third world conference in disaster reduction in 2015, which Japan has announced its intention to host.
Shashidhar Reddy left for Japan Sunday and will return on Thursday evening.
