Former African Footballer of Year Kanoute joins Chinese club

Beijing, June 30 (IANS) Former African Footballer of the Year Frederic Oumar Kanoute has joined Chinese Super League side Beijing Guo'an from Sevilla, the Chinese club confirmed Saturday.

The 34-year-old striker signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Guo'an this week to start a new career, reported Xinhua.

Kanoute, who was named the African Footballer of the Year in 2007, scored 136 goals in 209 games for Sevilla between 2005 and 2012. He had also played for Lyon, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Kanoute won 39 caps for Mali national team and scored 23 goals.
