Japan's jobless rate falls

Tokyo, June 29 (IANS) Japan's jobless rate dropped 0.2 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted 4.4 percent in May, government data showed Friday.

The number of jobless people contracted 3.3 percent to 2.89 million, according to a report released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

The improvement on the jobless reading underscored the recovery of the world's third largest economy, analysts said.

Separate data showed that the nation's household spending climbed 4.0 percent year-on-year to mark the fourth straight month of growth, reported Xinhua.
