London, June 29 (ANI): London Oympics chief Sebastian Coe has insisted that soccer star David Beckham will be offered a role at the Games, despite receiving a heartbreaking snub by Team GB football manager Stuart Pearce.
Coe insisted that he would have discussions with Beckham after he was left out of Pearce's 18-man squad for the looming Games.
"David has been an extraordinary supporter, probably our number one supporter - of the Games from the very beginning and is keen to continue his enthusiastic support right to the end," the Daily Mirror quoted Coe, as saying.
"He is from East London and knows how important the Games and sport are to young people. He is a great role model and we are lucky to have such an advocate," he added.
In a transatlantic call, Pearce informed Beckham that he was being omitted from the squad in favour of Manchester City's Micah Richards because, with Tottenham's Kyle Walker and Chris Smalling of Manchester United ruled out by injury, he required a more effective defensive cover. (ANI)
