Apple blasted for refusing to sell iPad to Farsi-speaking Iranian-American customers

Washington, June 27 (ANI): An Iranian-rights group has blasted tech giant Apple for denying Farsi-speaking Americans the right to buy iPads simply because of the language they speak.

The farce began last week in Georgia, where 19-year-old U.S. citizen Sahar Sabet claimed she was refused to be given the tablet computer after a shopkeeper heard her speaking Farsi.

Another Iranian-origin US citizen Zack Jafarzadeh had a similar experience at a nearby store.

Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said that there were other incidents in California and Virginia.

Awad also pointed out that Apple's efforts to enforce sanctions against Iran were tantamount to discrimination, Fox News.

"These are legal residents, on American soil," the report quoted Awad, as saying.

"As Americans we are outraged, and every American would be outraged," he added.

Meanwhile, store employees in Alpharetta told WSB-TV Atlanta that they were simply upholding U.S. sanctions, which prevent export of goods to Iran.

One even cited Apple's export policy, which specifically prevents sale of technology to the Middle Eastern country. (ANI)
