New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Over 350,000 lakh families in the capital are set to switch from kerosene oil to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Wednesday.

"The Delhi cabinet has given its nod for shift of around 3.57 lakh kerosene oil user families to LPG in order to make Delhi the first kerosene-free city in the country," said Dikshit in a statement.

As per Dikshit, "one time relief would be given to families" having the Below Poverty Line (BPL) or Antyodya Anna Yojna (AAY) or Jhuggi Ration Card (JRC) for purchasing LPG connection and gas stove.

"There are in all 3,56,395 families using kerosene oil for cooking. The shift over will eliminate ongoing black marketing," said the statement.

The project will be formally launched Aug 15, 2012.
