New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) The Delhi government Tuesday announced that industrial plots would be allotted to physically challenged people.

Labour and Industry Minister Ramakant Goswami said the physically challenged would be given industrial plots by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).

"Disability restricts their opportunities for leading functionally productive lives. From the application of modern technology, a number of aids have emerged which can reduce the effects of disabilities and enhance the economic potential of the disabled," he said.

Goswami said the scheme would assist the needy disabled people with sophisticated and scientifically manufactured aids and appliances that can promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation by reducing the effects of disabilities and enhance their economic potential.

The city Government has approved the policy with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Delhi Urban Development and Revenue Minister A.K. Walia asked the forest department to complete demarcation of forest areas for regularisation of unauthorised colonies.

Walia stated that the city government was keen on granting freehold rights to the allottees in 45 resettlement colonies developed prior to 1970.
