Fake currency seized in Rajasthan

Jaipur, June 16 (IANS) Two people were arrested and counterfeit currency with face value of about Rs.14 lakh was recovered in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district Saturday, police said.

Rajasthan Police raided a house in Pahari area and arrested Mohammed Taiyab, 32, and Mubarak Khan, 22, residents of Gopalgarh town of the district, some 150 km from Jaipur.

"We had been gathering clues about a racket of counterfeit currency in the area for the past few days. Acting on tip-offs, we carried out the raids at the house and arrested these two men," a police official said.

Police seized 295 fake currency notes of Rs.1,000 and 2,200 of Rs.500.

The official said that the seized notes were sent to the Reserve Bank of India's Jaipur branch for examination.
