Intensified violence in Syria hampers UN mission: observers ' chief
Damascus, June 15 (Xinhua-ANI): Head of the UN observer mission to Syria said Friday that the ongoing violence "that has intensified over the past 10 days" in Syria is limiting the observers' ability to conduct their task properly, charging that there is a lack of willingness for a peaceful transition but a push towards militarization.
In a briefing to journalists to assess the supervision mission after their six-week work, Maj. Gen. Robert Mood said that " violence, over the past 10 days, has been intensified willingly by both parties with losses on both sides."
Mood stressed that the violence intensified by both sides posses "significant risks" to the 300 observers deployed in hotspots across the country.
"There appears to be a lack of willingness to seek a peaceful transition. Instead there is a push towards advancing military positions," Mood said. (Xinhua-ANI)
