1980s polled 'best decade for gadgets'

London, June 15 (ANI): Sony's iconic cassette Walkman, the Soda Stream and VHS home video recorder have helped the 1980s get voted as the 'best decade for gadgets' in a poll.

According to a poll conducted by Pixmania.com, the sales of retro items have soared over the last 12 months by 415 per cent, a trend electronics analysts expect to continue well into the future.

The Sony Walkman was rated top gadget ever by one in ten Britons polled, beating the iPod, and the production of the Walkman ran from 1979 to 2010, where 220 million units were sold.

"It's great to see Brits embracing a mixture of both old and new when it comes to tech," the Daily mail quoted Ulric Jerome, executive director of Pixmania.com, as saying.

'We've seen a surge in demand for retro-type gadgets over the past year as companies look back to their most iconic designs for inspiration," he added.

The 1990s were voted the second most popular decade, accounting for 28 per cent of peoples' favourite gadgets, with the DVD player clinching the top spot.

The Nintendo Gameboy was voted second by one in 14, beating off stiff competition from Sony's PlayStation, which came third in the poll of 2,000 people by online retailer Pixmania.com. (ANI)
