Malaysian government urged to promote Indian business community in country

Kuala Lumpur, June 15 (ANI): The Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) has urged the government to take proactive measures to help the Malaysian Indian business community.

MAICCI President Datuk K.K. Eswaran recommended that the government give Malay Indians 10 percent of the government projects and tenders, besides representation in government-linked companies, and contracts and licences from federal and state agencies and local councils.

"The people are for the Prime Minister, but are against the party and the system, which failed them in the past," The Star quoted Eswaran ,as saying.

"Government-linked companies should also provide opportunities for our contractors to participate in their vendor development programmes," he said.swaran said the recommendation were mentioned in a memorandum handed over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Malaysian Indian Economic Council dinner.

He said many Indians had "nambikei (trust)" in Najib's vision to unite various races under his 1Malaysia vision.

Eswaran said the chamber would voice its opinion on government policies and stand against discrimination shown to Malaysian businessmen.

He added that the Indian community was grateful to have a prime minister who was willing to help Indians uplift themselves economically and also be accessible to the people.

Eswaran also thanked the government for setting aside RM180mil in the form of various loans for the betterment of local Indian entrepreneurs. (ANI)
