Couple arrested for torturing domestic help

Gurgaon, June 14 (IANS) A couple was arrested here Thursday for brutally torturing their under-age domestic help, police said.

The rescued boy has been handed over to a shelter for children. He hails from Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal

Amit Kumar, 37, and his wife Geeta, 35, were arrested for severely beating their 16-year-old domestic help. The boy was apparently being tortured by the duo for a long time.

Police said the victim had been working with the couple for more than two years.

The accused Amit works in a private firm. His wife, according to the police, generally stayed home during the day at their house in Sector 57.

The victim has several burn-marks on his body. Unable to bear the torture any longer, the boy escaped and was brought to the police by a child helpline.

"We have registered a case under various sections of the IPC, as well as sections 23 and 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act," an officer at the Sector 56 police station told IANS
