Raymond to open tailoring academies across India
Kolkata, June 14 (IANS) Renowned clothing brand Raymond, seeking to promote the tailoring trade, will open 20 tailoring academies and numerous workshops across the country in the next five years, a top company official said Thursday.
"We are in talks with several state governments and plan to open 20 tailoring academies and 100 workshops in the next five years, which will train about 25,000 people," Vice President (Emerging Business) Ram Bhatnagar told media persons here.
The company has an academy in Patna, which opened last month.
Raymond, which entered the organised sub-premium textiles market with its economy brand "Makers" last year and is now present in 472 towns across nine states, will expand its presence across the country by the year-end.
"We have over 11,500 retailers of the brand in nine states and we plan to expand our presence across India starting with Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. By the end of the year we hope Makers will have a pan-India reach," added Bhatnagar.
The company also hopes that the brand will grow by 15 percent in the next five years.
"The suiting and shirting market in the country is roughly around 750 million metres of which only 120 million metres is branded. The encouraging fact is that there has been a continuous shift from unbranded to the branded segment and we hope to encash on it. Our target for Makers is to grow by 15 percent in the next five years," Aniruddha Deshmukh, president (textiles), said.
