Poland sees no threat to ties with Russia because of Euro 2012 mayhem
Moscow, June 13 (IANS) Street clashes between Russian and Polish football fans in Warsaw would not threaten political relations between the two countries, the Polish Ambassador to Moscow said Wednesday.
"There are no reasons to believe that the incidents would affect our political relations," Wojciech Zajaczkowski told reporters.
He called the Polish attackers "pseudo-fans".
According to the diplomat, no charges have been framed so far against the 20 Russian fans detained in Warsaw, reported Xinhua.
Polish riot police surrounded a hotel in Warsaw where the Russian team was staying following the clashes Tuesday night. Police opened fire in the air and used water cannons to disperse the aggressive crowd.
At least two Russian and seven Polish fans were wounded. Thirteen Russians have been detained by police. In total over 180 rioters of various nationalities were detained.
Head of Russian Presidential Council for Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov said he would discuss last night's events with the Polish Interior Ministry.
"I am going to meet (in Warsaw) with the Polish Interior Ministry leadership as well as with the detained Russian fans," Fedotov told local media.
Russia and Poland played 1-1 in the Euro 2012 game that finished late Tuesday. On June 16, Russians will face Greece in Warsaw.
