Tamulpur (Assam), June 10 (ANI): A cache of ammunition was seized from a tourist vehicle near the Bhutan border in Baksa district, here on Sunday.

The seizure was done during a routine search, and the vehicle is owned by local transport authorities.

"The vehicle belonging to the Bodoland Transport Service with the number AS16C0420 was coming from Bhutan side. The vehicle was carrying passengers from Darangiri to Kokrajhar. We started checking the vehicle and came across two persons, identified as Dawak Hasdong and Rafel Murmu," Mujibur Rahman, a sub inspector with the Tamulpur police, said.

He also gave the details of the arms that were recovered from the vehicle.

"We found a suspicious bag in the dickey of the vehicle. We asked all the passengers about the bag but nobody claimed it then. We then started questioning the two men and as a result of it they confessed that the bag was theirs. We found 12 grenades and six detonators inside it. They accepted the contents belonged to them and a case has been registered against them," he said.

Police and local authorities suspect that the ammunition was to be supplied to the militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) outfit who are active in the area. (ANI)
