Melbourne, June 10 (ANI): At least 10 Qantas employees have been suspended indefinitely for allegedly watching and sharing pornographic pictures on computers at Sydney Airport.

According to a source, the employees, who work in and around the tarmac area helping with operations, are also being investigated for sharing "dirty" jokes through internal office email, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Qantas confirmed that it was conducting an internal inquiry and the workers could possibly lose their jobs if they were found guilty of having breached strict workplace policies on the viewing and sharing of illicit or inappropriate material.

The scandal came to light when a female human resources executive was walking past a desk in an operations area about 8.30am, and found a male worker looking at an image on a computer.

The HR executive told him to close the image down, but when she returned to his desk soon after, he was still looking at the image.

When the worker was intimated that a formal complaint would be made, he told the HR officer that "everyone's doing it".

It is understood that the pictures range from naked women to women photographed in graphic and explicit pornographic poses.

A source said that other images included "Page 3-style" photos of topless women wearing bikini bottoms.

1 employee has been suspended for allegedly sending an explicit pornographic picture to workmates from a private computer.

However, he told Qantas investigators that he did not realise it would end up on workplace computers because he thought he had sent it to their private computers.

Six workers have been suspended for between five and six weeks, while four others were suspended late last month after the inquiry uncovered more inappropriate computer use.

Each received a "please explain" letter detailing the allegations and advising they would be the subject of an inquiry. The letter also requested they respond to the allegations.

All of the workers are suspended on full pay pending the outcome of the inquiry.

A Qantas spokesman insisted that the airline did not tolerate employees using its IT system to "send, store, or forward pornographic, obscene, offensive or discriminatory material. Failure to adhere to these policies can lead to disciplinary action including warnings and termination of employment." (ANI)
