Garhwa (Jharkhand), June 9 (ANI): Security forces have rebuilt a police post here, with the twin objective of combating left wing extremism and bridging the gap between villagers and security personnel.

Since few years, the rebels have stepped up their efforts against the government as well as the locals, as various locals complained that Maoist activities such as killings and abductions have increased considerably in the area.

Bhandaria block in Garhwa district is an area dominated by the extremists.

However, with the presence of police force in the area, the villagers said they are feeling safe and are not living under any fear, unlike in the past.

"It is good that the police post has been formed. Earlier we used to face problems when we used to go to forest for cutting woods, the Maoists did not let us cut the woods, but now we are not facing any problem," Sheela Tirkey, a local, said.

The post has been named after Director General of Police of Jharkhand, Gauri Shankar.

Another local, Ramul Parhiya said that the situation would improve with the presence of security forces in the area.

"Earlier as there was no police post, people used to feel scared, but with the construction of the police post, peace is prevailing in the village," Parhiya said. (ANI)
